How To Remove Red Wine Stains From Your Bedding
You may have gotten yourself a glass of red wine to chill out on bed to watch your favourite Netflix drama. Lo and Behold! While you reach out for a snack nearby you accidentally spill your red wine on your bed sheet! You may feel flustered and would want to immediately grab a piece of wet cloth to clean off the stain. But wait! That could leave a stubborn stain that spreads to the surrounding area as you try to blotch and clean off the stain. We have 5 ways to remove wine stains from your bed sheet.
What To Do
Grab a cotton cloth and blot the stain gently to remove excess liquid. While blotting, life the bed sheet to prevent the stain from going deep into your mattress. Then remove the bed sheet.
Pull the fabric taut where the stain is with a rubber band over an empty bowl. Sprinkle a generous layer of salt or baking soda to absorb the liquid. Get a cup of boiling water and pour it onto the stain to flush it out.
Then throw the bed sheet into your washing machine on a hot water cycle. If it is a white sheet, check the care instructions and bleach the fabric accordingly. If bleach is not recommended, just machine wash with detergent.
What Not to Do
Do not rub into the stain as this will set the stain deeper into the fabric. Blot instead. Don’t procrastinate and wash the sheets the next day. Time is of the essence when it comes to cleaning off red wine stains.
If there are still traces of the stain on your bed sheet, do not line dry or throw into the dryer immediately. Instead, do another wash cycle.
Stains On Other Bedding
What if you have also stained other bedding items such as your quilt, topper, and mattress protector? First, check the care instructions so that you can avoid any chemical that is not recommended that might damage the material.
After adding boiling water to the stain, pour a mixture of one part dish soap and two parts hydrogen peroxide onto the stain.
If the stain has gotten onto your mattress, dampen a cotton cloth with the mixture of dish soap and hydrogen peroxide and gently blot into the stain. Or you can pour the mixture into a spray bottle and spray on the stain. Let it sit for 10 minutes, before blotting with the cotton cloth again to lift the stain. Finish by blotting with hot water using a damp cloth.
