3 Ways to Get the Most Out of Your Pillows
Besides our mattress, bed pillows are something we hold very personally to us. It is not something we can easily lend to others. It is also something we may miss when we are on a long-haul trip using shared pillows which may not feel as personal or comfortable than the pillows at home. Especially in Singapore weather is hot and humid year-round, with this in mind, it would make sense for us to care for our favourite pillows so that they are able to last for as long as possible. Here are 3 ways you can get the most out of your pillows.
1. How to Protect Your Pillow
We all buy pillow cases for our pillows. However, pillow cases may not be sufficient in protecting your pillow as accidental stains can still seep through the cover and get to your pillow. Before putting your pillow into your pillow case, it is better to encase your pillow in a pillow protector first. When you purchase a new pillow, make sure to buy two pillow protectors as well. The pillow protector acts as a barrier against dirt and oil that could get onto your pillow. With the pillow case, you get a double layer protection for your pillow.
2. Keep Extra Pillow Cases
The best thing about a pillow case is that you can decorate your pillow often with different colours and patterns. Extra pillow cases not only gives a fresh change of look for your pillow but it also is the first layer of defence for your pillow in case of any accidental spills, oil and dirt. Plus, pillow cases with good material thread count gives a soft and silk feel on your face. You may check out our pillow cases collection.
3. Wash Your Pillow
If your pillow is large enough you can put it into your washing machine at home. Most down and microfibre filling can be washed but remember to check the washing instruction label that comes with your pillow. Set your washer on a gentle wash cycle and two rinse cycles to make sure the soap is all removed from the pillow. Use the spin dry cycle in your washer to dry your pillow. You can spin dry it at least twice.
The fill at the centre of the pillow may still be damp while the outer layer feels dry. To make sure the pillow gets dry, throw it into the dryer along with clean tennis balls together with it to help fluff the pillow. Then hang the pillow in a dry place for one to two days to make certain that it is completely dry before putting it back to your bed.
Taking good care of your bed pillow will ensure it goes a long way for you and to give you a comfortable night’s sleep.
